Braun XT5 Electric Shaver Review

There are many reasons why the Braun XT5 electric shaver is a great product. First, it is very easy to use. The shaver is very light and the head is small, making it easy to maneuver around the face. The blade is also very sharp, making it easy to get a close shave. Second, the Braun XT5 electric shaver is very affordable. It is one of the most affordable electric shavers on the market, making it a great option for those on a budget.

The Braun XT5 electric shaver is very durable and is made from high-quality materials that are built to last. If you need it, the Braun XT5 electric shaver comes with a two-year warranty. This is a great feature that shows that the company stands behind its product.

Overall, if you are in the market for this type of electric shaver, the Braun XT5 has a lot to offer. The shaver is compact and convenient, while powerful and capable. The quality of the shave depends on your preference. The XT5 is a great trimmer and edger, but I found it did not get me a completely smooth shave. Body grooming with the XT5 was convenient and easy due to the multiple-size attachments that it comes with. Also, it is very worth mentioning that the blade is said to last up to 6 months before needing changing.

Having tried the Oneblade from Philips in the past and being very satisfied, I had to try the XT5. As with all of the other products I review, they were all purchased by me from Amazon and reviewed honestly.

Speaking on preference, I typically prefer to wet shave with a DE safety razor and a brush and bowl set. I have found DE safety razors to be the closest shave possible with the least irritation. If you are interested in learning more, check out some of these related posts:

Unboxing The Braun XT5

Braun XT5 boxThe Braun XT5 comes in a typical box that you might expect to find in your local brick-and-mortar store in the shaving section. I ordered mine from Amazon, but it still came with the top flap used to hang the box on a rack in a store. Overall, however, the box is quite nice and features an image of the XT5 itself and other information about the shaver.

Inside the box, you will find the XT5, a charger, and several different-sized blade guards for trimming. There is also a booklet in a side sleeve that has a lot of information about the product.

Above is an image of the Braun XT5 and all of the other goodies completely unboxed.

Braun XT5 blade and handle

The handle of the XT5 has a nice grip, a charging port on the bottom, and a removable head. The “blade” portion of the head is not removable, however.

Braun XT5 blade

The blade of the XT5 is unlike any other blade I have seen before. The most comparable electric razor blade would be the blade of the Philips Oneblade. While they are similar in appearance, the blade of the Braun XT5 vs Philips Oneblade are different in design and the way they direct the hair to the internal cutting mechanism.

Shaving with The Braun XT5

Shaving with the Braun XT5 was as you would probably expect. The blade itself is essentially an enclosed trimmer. The design of the head is deliberate to comb or direct hairs into the cutting mechanism.

I’m a clean shaver by preference and for work so the XT5 ended up not being completely for me. The shaver left stubble that couldn’t be seen but could be felt (and that drives me crazy). I also nicked myself a bit when going over my chin area. A full shave also took a bit longer than say a foil shaver from Braun. The blade of the XT5 is very small, maybe even smaller than a manual disposable razor.

However, not all is lost with the Braun XT5. The beauty of this shaver is it is very versatile. The XT5 excels in being extremely accurate for edging hairlines and other very small areas. Also, the shaver was exceptional for body hair when using one of the many guard attachments provided. The XT5 can also be used wet or dry (in the shower) making it very convenient.

Overall, I think the XT5 is worth the money more so for the fact that it is extremely useful for edging and shaving body hair in the shower. If you sport a beard, this electric razor might be perfect for you. On the other hand, if you prefer a clean shave from an electric, I recommend any of the Braun Series shavers.

Braun XT5 vs Philips Oneblade

The Braun XT5 is not the only electric razor of this type to hit the market. In fact, the Philips Oneblade was the first variation. You might ask, which one is better? Well, I have used both. A year or so ago I received the Oneblade as a gift, which I was thrilled to try. The experience is what led me to also purchase and try the Braun XT5.

Judging the Braun XT5 vs Philips Oneblade is not as straightforward as you might think. Both electric razors excel in their way. The Braun XT5 is underwhelming when it comes to getting a clean shave, but outperforms when doing detailed edging or body hair trimming. On the other hand, I got a far smoother shave using the Philips Oneblade.

If you are a person that sports facial hair and needs a good shaver to maintain it, the Braun XT5 is your best bet. However, If you prefer a clean shave and convenience, the Philips Oneblade will serve your needs better.

What’s to Like About The XT5

  • Convenient
  • Long battery life
  • Comes with several sized blade guards
  • Exceptional for detailed edging and body hair trimming
  • The blade is claimed to be able to last up to 6 months
  • Affordable

What Could Be Disliked About The XT5

  • Small blade
  • Takes a bit longer for a full shave
  • Will cause nicks if not careful
  • Leaves some stubble

Overall Impression

The Braun XT5 is an electric shaver that attempts to do it all. While the shaver cannot give a slick smooth shave, it excels in other areas. The XT5 is overwhelmingly good at edging and trimming. The razor is very convenient as it can be used wet or dry (shower shavers I see you). The construction of the XT5 feels solid and high quality, with the only real breakable part being the replaceable head. People who need to keep their facial hair trimmed and tidy would ultimately have the best experience with the XT5.

I love braun but the xt5 wont cut butter. Ive tried and tried nothing at all the one blade is by far superior to the x15 not even close. And i started out with a braun traval razor which i tink is a great electric razor braun dropped the ball on this one

    1. I found the XT5 and One Blade to be very similar in my experience. However, the Xt5 is better with stubble and shorter hair in my opinion. Overall though its more about what works for you!

  2. I have the XT-5 and I’m over all happy with my purchase except for the time it takes me to get a full shave it’s a bit longer than a regular foil shaver. I have not tried the one blade but thinking of giving it a whirl as I’m hearing it’s great for a close shave m, which is all me! I don’t do the new beard trend it just itches too much.
