The 4 Best Safety Razor Blades for Thick Hair

There are a lot of different factors that go into choosing the best double-edge safety razor blade. The three main things to consider are the blade’s sharpness, durability, and price. Also, a great consideration is your individual preference, skin type, and hair type.

Blade sharpness is important because a dull blade can cause irritation and even cuts. A sharp blade will give you a close, comfortable shave with minimal irritation. Sharper razor blades are also great for coarse or thick facial hair as they cause less drag and pulling.

Durability is important because you don’t want to have to replace your blades too often. A durable blade will last longer and save you money in the long run. Also, the material that the bade is made out of can be a good indication of how long it will last you before replacing.

Price is also a factor to consider. You don’t want to spend too much on blades, but you also don’t want to get a cheap blade that won’t last or give you a good shave. I have personally tried blades that range in cost from cents to dollars each. I have found that I prefer a few of the cheaper ones for my thick facial hair.

There are a lot of different double-edge safety razor blades on the market, so it’s important to do your research to find the best one for you. Consider the factors mentioned above and continue reading for my recommendations for the 4 best DE safety razor blades for thick hair.

After trying numerous different blades with different safety razors, I have found to most enjoy and highly recommend Shark Double Edge Safety Razor Blades. Shark DE safety razor blades caught me by surprise due to their inexpensive price and lesser-known name. Shaving with Shark blades gave me an unmatched level of comfort. I got an extremely smooth shave with zero irritation or bleeding, which is hard to come by with my thick hair and sensitive skin. Overall, I rate Shark blades as the best bang for your buck and definitely worth giving a try.

My first pick for this list is DE blades made by Feather. Feather is a pretty recognized name in the shaving world for having very high-quality products. Their blades are Japanese-quality blades that are insanely sharp. Regardless of their quality and sharpness, I rank them as the lesser on this list. Simply put, Feather blades were extremely sharp but also extremely unforgiving. I found myself having far more irritation and bleeding with these blades although they cut through my facial hair like butter. Also, it is worth noting that they are on the more expensive side.

Astra Platinum Double Edge Safety Razor Blades were my go-to blade for some time. These blades are very high quality, and super sharp, but are also on the aggressive side. They cost around half as much as the previously mentioned Feather blades and give a similar shave. Astra Platinum offers quality blades at a fraction of the price. However, there were times when they were a tad rough on my sensitive skin. They do have a very sharp blade though that can be perfect for thick facial hair. Astra Platinum razor blades are an affordable option that is worth giving a try.

Chill Boys Boxers

Wilkinson Sword blades are a brand of blades that I had only recently tried for myself and was very impressed. These double-edge razor blades run about the same price as Feather blades but offer a far more comfortable shave. Sword blades are super sharp and the blade held up to multiple shaves in my experience. The only downside of Wilkinson Sword blades that I found was while they are comfortable, they also have a bit of a bite to them. I would recommend using these blades with proper shave prep as they can irritate if not careful.

Shark blades, in my opinion, are the perfect blade for sensitive skin and thick facial hair. I didn’t really expect much at first from these blades but was soon taken back. These blades gave the perfect combination of comfort, durability, and sharpness. I hardly had to do a second pass as the blades cut very close to the skin but didn’t drag or pull at all. I tried these blades on both my Merkur 34c and my MANSCAPED Plow 2.0 and got similar results. Overall, I recommend anyone interested in wet shaving grab some Shark blades and give them a try. Whether you are experienced in this type of shaving or a beginner, Shark blades provide a great shave. These blades check off every box on my list for the best double-edge safety razor blades: sharpness, durability, and cost.
